District 5 Community Events

Emergency Preparedness Fair 5-2-26

It’s Budget Season. RSVP Today for our Budget Forum.

The Alameda County budget is one of the most important ways we decide how public resources are invested in our communities – from healthcare, homelessness response, food access, public safety, and social services. Community engagement and advocacy play a critical role in shaping those decisions.

We recently saw the power of community in action. This week, we secured a commitment to an additional $11.5 million for food security programs through the Measure W Essential County Services Fund after members of our Food Sovereignty Roundtable and the Senior Services Coalition spoke directly to the Board of Supervisors about the urgent need in our communities. This is a reminder that when community members organize and speak up, it can directly impact how County resources are allocated. This commitment will be official when the Board of Supervisors approves the County budget.

Alameda County is in the middle of the budget process for the next fiscal year (July 2026 – June 2027). The County budget is facing unprecedented challenges, including a projected $91 million budget gap, largely due to state and federal budget cuts and policy changes. We are facing difficult decisions ahead. That is why it is all the more important that you stay informed and engaged.

To share information about the County budget and how you can get involved, my office is holding a second virtual Budget Forum on June 11. In this webinar, we will discuss:

  • Key highlights of the proposed County FY26-27 budget, including how the County will close its $91 million budget gap
  • How federal and state budget cuts impact Alameda County
  • Our policy and budget priorities
  • Opportunities for public participation and advocacy

📅 When: Thursday, June 11, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm
