About Supervisor Fortunato Bas
Alameda County Supervisor Nikki Fortunato Bas represents the District 5 communities of Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Piedmont, West Oakland, North Oakland and portions of the lower and upper Oakland Hills. Since joining the Board of Supervisors in January 2025, she has championed immigrant and refugee rights, housing solutions, early childhood education, and equitable access to healthcare.
She is a lifelong community organizer, daughter of Filipino immigrants, and the first Filipino American elected to represent Alameda County and Oakland, where she previously served as the President of the Oakland City Council.
As County Supervisor, she chairs the Alameda County Together for All (ACT for All) Committee, which is coordinating a proactive response to protect, support, and lift up vulnerable communities that are impacted by federal policies and budgets. She led the effort to secure over $7.5 million for immigrant and refugee services to re-establish a rapid response hotline, expand legal services and deportation defense, and support community organizing and education. She also championed a critical $10 million investment in food security to mitigate federal budget cuts.
She believes in people powered government and engaged the community to advocate and win a historic $1.4 billion county investment in homelessness solutions through Measure W.
A working mom and member of the First 5 Commission, she also supported the adoption of a $1 billion county investment in early childhood education over the next five years through Measure C.
For two decades prior to being elected, she advocated for worker, environmental, gender and racial justice. She enjoys outdoor walks, baking treats, and listening to live music.
